I would have to say this is my favorite subject to paint. I rairly finish a painting without feeling a closeness to them . I am so lucky to live in an area where there is such abundent wildlife.
I watch them from my studio unobserve while they feed, play, and move across the fields to the river for water.

I have live most of my life on the west coast of Washington and Oregon. I have a deep love for the ocean . I find it hard to explain how being able to paint seascape keeps that conection strong.
Now that I live in Idaho I have come to realise how much I miss that part of my life.

What seperates the painting of animals around the home and farm from the wildlife painting for me is the story.
Nearly every painting has a story and it become a part of the art and is passed along as a part of the piece. I have included the story with each piece when I can. My hope it that it reminds someone of a animal and a story they can tell.

A lot of the blades have a story. Someone will bring me one and tell me a about their great grandpa using the blade to clear the family homestead, or the saw that thier dad used as a timber faller. Sometimes I can recreate a memory for someone on the blade.
I try to do as many as I can between my other paintings. Unfortunally they don't last long when I get one finished. I have been trying for years to keep one to hang in my own home.

I love doing portrait work. A few years ago I painted each of my 10 granchildren. It was an amazing experince to be able to see them through the eyes of art, as well as being Gram.

I love Still Life paintings. Being able to put together things that are special to you or someone else that is unique to that persons life. It tells a little bit about a person and what moves them.
